The NoSleep Podcast: Human-Made for Human Minds
Since 2011, The NoSleep Podcast has been presenting audio horror stories. Like the tales told around the campfire from days gone by, our stories are brought to life by people and are presented for people.
The work we present to our fans every week features talented people sharing their craft in a number of ways: the writing of stories, the voice acting performances, the audio productions, and the musical scores. Along with these elements, we feature an illustration on each episode inspired by one of the stories. Every element of The NoSleep Podcast is created by people, not machines.
Since the advent of generative artificial intelligence (“GEN AI”), we have seen how almost every segment of our field can be co-opted by GEN AI. Full stories can be generated from a simple text prompt. Artificial voices can read the stories. Audio production can be almost fully automated by AI. Music and illustrations can also be generated by text prompts.
The NoSleep Podcast has not used and never will use GEN AI in any aspect of our work.
The only element of our episodes which is not fully within our control is the writing of stories. We have a diligent and talented editorial team who are well-versed at identifying stories that might contain GEN AI text. When in doubt, we utilize AI-detecting programs to check for signs of text which could be GEN AI. So while we cannot state with complete certainty that our stories are 100% written by humans, we do everything within our power to ensure they are. This includes collaborating regularly with talented writers with whom we have a solid relationship and in whom we have complete trust.
In the online and print world, artwork and illustrations are where GEN AI is most visible. One of the many negative aspects of this has been the way some people mistake genuine human-made art as GEN AI art solely because of how it looks.
We collaborate with a team of illustrators who do not use GEN AI. All the artwork we present is created by talented people without the use of any prompt-based or machine generated art.
These illustrators use the digital design tools available to them. The use of filters and plugins may confuse some people into thinking a machine created the art. This has never been the case with art featured on The NoSleep Podcast. Let this be repeated for emphasis: No GEN AI artwork is presented by The NoSleep Podcast.
The NoSleep Podcast has been around for many years and has been releasing high quality productions on every artistic front long before GEN AI became publicly available. We have no intention of changing the way we do things. This includes the substitution of human creativity for the soulless slop of machines.
